As you know, in municipal elections on December 23rd, 2009 the Azerbaijani society will make the next step towards democratic improvement.Municipalities are wished to be represented by more creative and modern people with the active participation of youth in the elections that makes 30% of Azerbaijani population.
As “IRELI” Public Union, we propose the “Municipality-2009” project: “To stimulate the participation of youth to the municipal elections for institutions of local government” to draw attention of population to municipality institutions and municipality elections 2009, to stimulate the active participation of youth in municipal elections both like a voters and candidates, to increase the citizens’ knowledge of municipality law, to develop the community-municipality relations, to enlighten the youth interested in municipal elections.Also theoretical information about “Pre-election campaign” and practical advices on how to make the campaign more fruitful are planned to be given to the youth. The project consists of 3 levels. At the first level of the project for the active youth who are interested in municipal elections are going to be organized the pre-election trainings and discussions.
National Municipality Associations and “IRELI” Public Union are organizing “Democracy Weeks” from October 21st till November 20th, 2009 in 56 cities and regions in order to increase the citizens’ knowledge of municipality law and their interest to the elections. Power Point presentations and interactive discussions on such topics as “Municipality status” and “Election campaign organization” will be held for active youth in every city and region in the framework of “”Democracy Weeks” project. The trainings are going to be led by the professional trainers from “IRELI” Public Union.
At the next level, concerts of Azerbaijani classical music with “The future to come with the Youth” slogan in performance of young students of Baku Musical Academy are planned to be hosted in 7 cities of Azerbaijan, such as Xachmaz, Shirvan, Zagatala, Lankaran, Yevlakh, Ganja, Gazakh. The aim of the concerts by young performers is to symbolically support the youth who is going to participate in municipal elections.
At the 3rd level of the project the trainings will be organized for the people who want to be as observers during the municipal elections.
